When we talk about not being under the Law specifically the 10 commandments, some get the impression that we are preaching as the law being destroyed. But nothing could be further from the truth, the fulfilment of the law is not the destruction of the law.
And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.
~ Hebrews 3:5-6
Paul beautifully answered an age-old question here. He first described our bodies as God’s house, then he describes Moses through whom the 10 commandments were given as a servant. But since Jesus has come, he is the SON (not a servant) over His house i.e our bodies.
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
~ John 1:17
So did Jesus come to destroy the law or the 10 commandments?
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
~ Matthew 5:17
But how did he fulfil the 10 commandments and the prophecies of the prophets? Every requirements of the broken 10 commandments were punished on Jesus’s body thus fulfilling “Cursed is everyone who hanged on the tree”
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
~ Colossians 2:14
So what happens when we allow the Son to rule over God’s house? Sin loses its power and you will start doing the requirements of the 10 commandments without realising it.
“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them,[a] says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
~ Jeremiah 31: 31-34
But What if you still allow the Servant, Moses (10 commandments) to rule over God’s house? Simple, sin becomes attractive and we fall from Grace. This is why we see so many horrible sins in the Christian world today.
For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.
~ Galatians 5:4
See the difference between Moses and Jesus ruling over your body? Ask yourself, is your Church under Grace or Law?
