Many Christians do not understand what transpired on the cross, many of them think Jesus forgives our sins but do NOT understand the reason for why our sins are forgiven.
No matter how many good things we try to do, we end up doing more bad. The more we try to be good the worse it is.
Everything has consequences, every sin must be punished and there has to be a judgment for every sin.
In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
~ Hebrews 9:22
Prelude to The Finished Work: God Loves us More than The Judgement
God has to do justice even though he is full of mercy. Without judgment, the whole universe will crumble and cease to exist. God will become a liar if he doesn’t punish sin. But he loves us too much to let us go to hell.
Thanks to God’s wisdom, since He does not want anyone to perish He can punish himself. He became a man and was punished like a man. Since God lives outside time and space, he had to enter the time and space by becoming a human being.
It pleased God to punish his son on the cross, it pleased God in redeeming all of us.
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
~ Isaiah 53:10
Peter a man of action said of Jesus “He did no sin”. John a man close to the heart of Jesus said: “In him, there was no sin”. Paul a man of scholarly intellect said, “He knew no sin”. He was a perfect sinless man, 100% God, 100% Man.
On the Cross, God’s Wrath and Mercy were Satisfied
Yet he became sin on the Cross, Jesus took all our on his own body at the Cross. God considered Jesus as the greatest sinner on the cross even though he was a sinless man. Since all Broken 10 commandments, curses fell on Jesus.
Scourge after scourge, Jesus was punished in my place. I deserve that punishment because I have broken all the 10 Commandments, but Jesus took it upon himself.
Even God turned his back on Jesus when he cried out “My God, My God. Why have you forsaken me?” So that you and I today can cry out “Abba, Abba Why have you SO blessed me?”
When he said “Finished”, our past, present and future sins were all sent away (None of us was alive 2000 years ago, all our sins were of future and will be of any in future).
He took all our curses and sin so that we can enjoy all of Jesus’s blessings and righteousness.
Thanks to Christ’s Finished Work on the Cross, we are now Healed and Made Rich
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed.
~ Isaiah 53:5
What’s even better? Along with our past, present and future sins being forgiven we are also healed and made rich because of what Jesus did on the cross.
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
~ 2 Corinthians 8:9
Now God cannot punish YOU for the sins he has already punished on Jesus’s body. If he does he becomes an unjust God and Jesus died for nothing. So rejoice, you are a new creation the moment you accept Christ’s finished works on the Cross and consider him your substitute on the cross.
